We had our interim crit for Project 02 (which is more like Project 01 Part 2) on Friday 16th. Having watched another tutor group’s presentations the day before, I realised that I was rusty when it came to project presentations (as I’d only WIP drawings to show, no visuals etc). In part, it is because I learnt the hard way in undergraduate that it is far quicker, and as I’ve found, more useful to rapidly iterate in 2D first, moving to 3D modelling after. This will allow you to still pick up elements which you may have missed or misunderstood, but it is far quicker to change a single element in a single plane, than remodelling every time you screw up. Thats not to say that I don’t 3D model during the early stages - I do, but limit it to quick maquettes to test shapes, forms, solar analysis etc. A detailed 1-100 or 1-50 model only comes afterwards.
Despite my apprehension (I hadn’t been that worried over a crit for a couple of years!), I received positive feedback on the plans, and was advised to look into storyboarding the visuals, thus helping to focus the modelling process. I intend to attempt to work out 3 different image series’ focusing on three different users/workers on the site, in addition to the usual fair of axos, and an isometric site map/visual in the same style as in part 1 of this project.
We’ve got 6 weeks before the final crit, and 8 until hand in and the end of year one (or four, depending on how you count). I’m giving myself 2 weeks to model, 3 weeks to generate all diagrams and images, 1 week to finalise, then a week to polish after the review. Tough, but arguably doable.
I’ve decided to upload only the work in progress plans (incl. site plan) since the elevations and sections I drew up are significantly wider (and only half worked up) that they’d likely be pixelated all to hell, thus not providing any meaningful information.
