Project 01 - Thursday
So, Thursday brought the Induction Week’s activities to a close with a model-making exercise - developed from the collage work.
Truthfully, I found this week a bit rough. Partly housemate squabbles, and I think I am still terrified with being back at University (it didn’t exactly go well the first time around). These things will ease themselves out given time, so long as time is in the scale of days rather than weeks.
Back to the exercise: originally I thought this was actually a group exercise, and thus I ended up with just paper to work with for my model (all the good stuff had been taken), and frankly, I was not impressed with what I came up with. I’m not overly concerned - it is only the first week back. The tutor told me off at one point for sketching rather than modelling - I understand the point he was making re: not overthinking and simply getting on with things.
However, my thought process is that material isn’t exactly plentiful this time - as a Foundation student last year, we had an awful lot of material provided to us as part and parcel of running the course. This time? Everything we do has to be done on our own dime. Material is precious. If that means I do a quick sketch to ensure I don’t waste material later on, I figure it is a reasonable expenditure of time. Perhaps I’m too concerned with that, we will see.
