We had our final crit of the first phase of the project today, and my feedback was predominantly as expected (to sum - still missing some of my workings, oh how maths teachers of old would be rolling their eyes). However, these are missing due to my continued troubleshooting of how best to diagrammatically represent them, rather than because I’m being lazy!

We have our first critical review tomorrow for the project, and my biggest concern is whether I have managed to string together a coherent argument for my research direction. I’ve been pulling at a lot of threads over the past 4 weeks, my brain is fried, and I worry that I’ve overstretched and still have a too abstract approach to it. So. Unfortunately the course I was attending at UCD wasn’t working out; but I am damn glad that I at least attempted the shift. Dublin is a lovely city, and hopefully one day, when the world isn’t so crazy, I’ll be able to revisit it (for the 4th time!) and have a chance to truly enjoy it. I’ll be moving back to the UK by the end of the year, and we’ll see what that brings.

As mentioned in the previous post, one of the next steps was to translate the method into one that would allow for the replication of a predefined unit. Fortunately, I was able to broadly copy the grid generation already done, however, I tweaked it as I was no longer generating extrusions married to a set of perpendicular planes.

So, in an effort to help keep myself sane over the next one and a bit weeks, I think I’m going to start blogging again, prior to the Masters course actually commencing.
My focus has been rotating between playing in Rhino & Grasshopper - revisiting the approach I took to the undergrad archive project, specifically the grid generation method; learning German (A1) through the Goethe Institute (something I have admittedly been struggling with); reading Cloud Atlas; binge watching The West Wing; and staving off boredom during this quarantine period by re-learning how to play chess.
